What to have ready
It speeds things up if you can say whether the house sits on a slope and which side is uphill, whether problems change after heavy rain, and whether you have a crawl space, a basement, or both. Photos help enormously — a wide shot of the affected wall, a close-up with something for scale beside the crack, and if you have one, a picture of the yard uphill of the house. None of it is required; we measure everything on site regardless.
If something is actively moving
A wall visibly pushed in, a horizontal crack that opened suddenly, a retaining wall rotating at its base or shedding block, or a floor that dropped noticeably in a short time deserves a phone call rather than a form. Those get scheduled ahead of routine evaluations, and we'll tell you on the phone whether to stay clear of a particular area until we've looked.
